New Paragraph

about my  work

After a first career as a nurse and health visitor, and a second as mother to several children, I graduated with a First Class Honours degree from the Open University.

As a social historian of the 19th and 20th centuries, I am especially interested in what people wrote and read, what art they produced, and why they lived as they did – as well as in the political, economic and religious events of their time.

I remain enthusiastic about the transformative power of adult education and have tutored for the Workers' Educational Association, as well as freelance.

My writing room is a peaceful place in the top of a round oast house in Sussex.
